This book contains many scenes with so much energy and intensity that it seems like you are really there. As the last seconds of the game tick away, Lonnie and Cal must make a decision. After reading this book, I'm surprised its on my grade levels' reading list. Lonnie and Cal would always fight but Lonnie actually started to like Cal, he was stabbed and he died and really affected Lonnie cause he was like a father to Lonnie. His works include Fallen Angels, Bad Boy, Darius and Twig, Scorpions, Lockdown, Sunrise Over Fallujah, Invasion, Juba! He is also a two-time recipient of the Coretta Scott King Award for Now Is Your Time! For anyone who likes basketball or reality books you should read it. His coach, Cal, knows Lonnie has what it takes to be a pro-basketball player, but warns him about giving in to the pressure. Well, at least in the area he's from.
I would recommend this book to people who loves sports. After losing the bet Tyrone and his friends Stabbed Cal which ended up killing him. After reading this book, I found it interesting that the book was not only about sports, but was equally about a teenagers life and challenges outside of basketball. Hoops is a non-fiction book. He is growing up with a mother that they always get in arguments and the only thing that he will ever do to cheer himself up is play basketball.
This is the theme because as Lonnie is playing basketball and he has to face the struggles in basketball and outside of the sport. Hoops Details I have always hated reading because I thought it was a waste of time. When the bad thing happens Lonnie just kept working hard and finished out the game. In one of the last games of the tournament, there are these betters who tell Cal to bench Lonnie for them to win the bet, and if Cal does not he could get seriously injured by the betters. Hoops was an ok book sometimes it would be confusing sometimes. It is about a 17 year old teenager that loves basketball, but lacks guidannce in life.
A big part of what made Walter who he is today is his early life and how it affected his writing, his first success, his background, how his writing contributed to our youth, the controversies about him, and the fact of should his books be red in a high school. Later on in this book Lonnie faces a really difficult decision if he wants to throw the game or if he wants to beat the opposing team. Meanwhile, Lonnie tries to face the everyday burdens of living in poverty. I think his friend is Cal and he believed that Lonnie is capable of joining the National Basketball Association. Lonnie lives in Harlem with little hope for the future.
Compelling writing illuminates the life of a street-smart kid and a failed athlete. The description of the plot in the book was so vigorating with the detail as the narrator describes the book in great detail with the people and setting the characters are in the book. But there is always something that makes life worth living for everybody. There should be some form of self realization seen through this book. He pointed to a spot on my right, and I thought that he was pointing at a spot for somebody to set a pick. Hoops is a non-fiction book. I reccomend this book to anyone who likes basketball or a great story about a person's life.
He used very good vocabulary and it was easy to understand. Myers jumped to the ground, flashed a stiletto in order to fend them off, and made a mad dash for his building. I think that Walter Dean Myers did a very good job at writing the book called Hoops. Even though, Lonnie in the story goes through tough times and gets into peer pressure i can definitely relate myself to him becau I think this was a wonderful book to read especially since i was in the middle of basketball season. The majority of the story takes place in the courtroom. A man named cal a former nba player now his teams coach. He also collaborated with his son Christopher, an artist, on a number of picture books for young readers including We Are America: A Tribute from the Heart and Harlem, which received a Caldecott Honor Award, as well as the teen novel Autobiography of My Dead Brother.
It usually discusses the daily life of the main character and what that person specifically does during the day. Many times in this book has Lonnie's friends stuck up for him and Lonnie trusted his friends a lot to keep his secrets from others. The majority of his books are written in a modern day setting with events occurring in the present time. Lonnie was one of the main characters and the story mainly revolved around him and what he did. I would recommend this book to people who loves sports.
