The flashbacks are annoying and serve no purpose other than to tell a boring story of how Neville's wife and daughter were killed, and the film fails to make us feel any sympathy at all for them and shows us no reaction from Neville to the incident. Given the protagonist Neville's relatively easy ability in moving around the world seems to take a little siphoned gas and he's go to go , I felt like it was an incomplete story that left me with many questions about the world. Although after a while, when his character behaved unlike Will Smith's Robert Neville, I couldn't imagine him as Will Smith, or a blonde Totally. In this movie it starts with Neville remembering his past daily life as a military scientists. The first 30 minutes, literally, has no action and very little talk. Yes, I realize that you get a few flashbacks but the writers decided not to include any flashbacks of how the disease started, no clips of people progressing through the stages of illness, in essence, everything that led to the point Will Smith ultimately arrived at.

But he is not alone. Brings to mind the old adage 'they don't make 'em like they used to! Every time a zombie appears in this film you can't help but think you're playing a first-generation Xbox 360 game. The fact that it is only when he gives into faith that Neville is truly ably to sacrifice himself to save the human race sound familiar? This here is a moments flick. More fights with zombies in the dark ensue, and then out of nowhere Neville is saved by a woman called Anna who had responded to a radio message that Will had sent out.
I suppose I could look this up. Is it enough that Neville feels isolated? Most of the ideas are sound, but the way they are fitted together seems fishy, with some of the argumentation incomplete. Years ago, you see, my husband had wanted to talk about the book, probably when the most recent adaptation to movie form had come out, and I am well known for not reading horror, so it wasn't an unreasonable assumption that I would never read this. And if it is true that mankind has 100 years to live before we destroy our planet, it provides an enlightening vision of how Manhattan will look when it lives on without us. But if you have only seen that Will Smith movie that went 180 degrees on the book's message, the soul-crushing impact of these words will be lost on you. It is also a story in which happy ending is impossible by default - which Hollywood, of course, promptly 'fixes'. Will Smith comparing himself to a Bob Marley song is especially cringe-worthy, but not so much as the false imagery of a butterfly explaining it would require a lot of effort that I frankly don't want to devote to reviewing a movie as awful as this, so just take my word for it, please. During the first half of the film we are every now and then treated to a few emotionally charged flash backs that detail the evacuation of Manhattan and the separation of Neville from his family. Sometimes when I make that statement people give a quizickle look, but, remember that most of the film is Smith acting on his own with a dog, and he holds the audiences interest. The storyline could have been enhanced to give the horror film more horror and thrills. Survival on the streets of New York City takes on frightening connotations in I Am Legend.
Or a mixture of both? This follows the book pretty closely. The email I use for this channel is mrblacksmovies gmail.
